“To me, a napkin ring represents hospitality and the personality of the host,” says Myka Meier, founder of Beaumont Etiquette. It’s a small detail that doesn’t demand attention but adds warmth and sometimes excitement to the table.

Rebecca Gardener, an event designer, offers a blunt assessment: “Quite simply, napkin rings are for dirty napkins.” Gardener, who washes linen napkins between uses, doesn’t see a place for them in her modern approach to dining.

However, the napkin ring persists, fueled by nostalgia and its association with formal dining. Lee emphasizes that the key is thoughtful application. “I only like to use it if it’s going to enhance [the table] or be purposeful,” she explains.
