2027 Color of the Year Predictions: Valspar and Sherwin-Williams Lead the Way
Valspar and Sherwin-Williams have unveiled their 2027 Color of the Year selections, offering insights into upcoming trends in home design. The forecasts point towards a move away from single-tone palettes, leaning into a blend of earthy neutrals, deep reds, greens, and jewel tones.
Valspar’s ‘Cottage Door’
Valspar has designated ‘Cottage Door’ (8004-38E) as its 2027 Color of the Year, describing it as a reflective midtone neutral blue with warm and cool undertones. Sue Kim, Valspar’s director of color marketing, notes the shade’s aim to create spaces that feel ‘honest and grounding.’ The brand recommends pairing ‘Cottage Door’ with warm gray ‘Moon Shot’ (8005-2B), muted pink ‘Apricot Blush’ (8003-8A), and light wood tones.

Sherwin-Williams’ ‘Rewild’
Sherwin-Williams’s 2027 Colormix Trend Forecast, titled ‘Rewild,’ anticipates a shift towards moody oxbloods, mossy greens, earthy neutrals, chalky whites, sun-baked clays, and saturated jewel tones. Color strategist Emily Kantz predicts continued popularity of richer, darker hues, particularly cranberry and maroon tones, with staying power for several years.
Both companies anticipate a broader palette beyond traditional neutrals, signaling a move towards more layered and expressive interior design in 2027. Further Color of the Year announcements are expected from Behr, Benjamin Moore, Glidden, and Pantone throughout the coming months.
