Behr’s 2027 Color of the Year Favors Green-Eyed Attendees

Behr revealed its 2027 Color of the Year, “Grounded,” an olive green with mossy notes and a brown undertone, at an event where attendees with green eyes reportedly looked particularly good near the shade.

A Unique Shade Developed from Scratch

Kayla Kratz, Behr’s head of color, explained that the company created “Grounded” entirely new, testing dozens of variations before settling on the final hue. “Some were more dark, some were more bright, some even had more of a chalky feel,” Kratz stated. “We just kept on dialing it in.”

Distinguishing from Previous Trends

Unlike the ubiquitous sage greens of recent years, “Grounded” features a brown cast rather than gray, offering a warmer, deeper tone. It’s closely related to Behr’s 2026 Color of the Year, “Hidden Gem,” but Behr is positioning it as part of a broader trend toward earthier shades.

Versatile for Interior Design

Kratz highlighted the color’s versatility, noting its compatibility with existing materials like wood floors, cream upholstery, and brass accents. “Grounded is that anchor in the space that brings those materials to life,” she said, suggesting it could revitalize a dated sofa.
