Drew barrymore sells westchester estate after $5m renovation

Actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore has listed her sprawling 12-acre estate in Westchester County, New York, for just under $5 million, according to Compass. The sale comes just two years after the Hollywood star embarked on a significant renovation of the 18th-century property, drawing on her design sensibilities cultivated through her Beautiful by Drew housewares line.

The property in Harrison, New York, was purchased in 2024 for $4.4 million, prompting a full-scale transformation that reimagined the historic Home while respecting its original character. The 5,600-square-foot residence boasts five bedrooms, a chalet-style foyer with a limestone fireplace, and 30-foot ceilings in the great room. Barrymore, who primarily resides in New York City, sought a more secluded retreat, finding the 12-acre estate less than an hour from Manhattan an ideal alternative to her Hamptons Home. “I walked in and felt immediately that I was meant to be there, that I was meant to work on this house,” Barrymore told the Wall Street Journal, describing a sense of “strange, spiritual calling.”

The renovation included a spacious, dark-wood kitchen, a sunlit conservatory, and a family room featuring exposed beams and tomato-red walls. The bedrooms are adorned with cheerful patterns, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout the Home. Outside, the grounds feature a pool house, a guest cottage, and extensive wooded areas populated with wildlife, including deer, pheasants, and ducks. The property also includes a pond-like pool, offering a tranquil escape.

While the project ultimately exceeded initial expectations in both scope and cost, Barrymore’s needs shifted, leading to the decision to put the property back on the market. The listing highlights the carefully considered interiors, ready for a new owner to enjoy. This sale underscores a growing trend of celebrities seeking more private, yet accessible, properties within commuting distance of major metropolitan areas. The property's location and extensive grounds make it a compelling offering in a competitive market.

The market for luxury estates in Westchester County remains robust, with demand consistently outpacing supply. Barrymore's decision to sell marks the end of a transformative chapter for the property and presents a unique opportunity for a discerning buyer.

The estate is listed with Compass.
